Virginia Van Santen
As many of you already know, Virgina passed away Saturday morning after a battle with liver cancer. This is so unbearably sad for so many reasons. She was a great talent in pattern design and yarn dyeing. VvS Painted Yarns was one of the very first yarns that I purchased for my shop and Virginia was wonderful to work with. Just as she introduced her sock yarn she learned of her illness. Both she and I talked about how unfair it was that just as she was getting known and things were beginning to take off, she wouldn't be able to continue. I'm so glad I kept yarn aside for myself, which is safely tucked in my stash - I will knit something amazing with it as a tribute to Virgina and her talent. I'm working on a beaded scarf with one of the skeins - but anything else I make with the yarn will take careful consideration. I'm so sad to hear this news. I feel honored to have four skeins of Virginia's yarn in my stash--some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. It's still in my stash because, like you, I want to use it in a truly special project which I have not yet identified.
I'm so sorry about this. I wasn't able to get any of her yarn -- you sold it as fast as it came in. I wish those of you who DID buy it would find a way to post pictures of projects you made with it in some centralized place. I'd love to see the colorways in use, as I had specific ideas for several of them.
Connie, I am so sorry you lost your dear friend to cancer. My father passed away well over a year ago now from multiple myeloma and he left so many things he was passionate about behind. I miss him every day. I am glad to hear you have her yarn in your stash...you can always remember her through her creation. I;m sorry she didn't get to continue her work long enough. Cancer is such a mean disease.
I have just received a skein of VVS Painted Yarn and it is lovely--such subtle, softly blended colours. And so soft, too. Like others, I will be thinking carefully about how to use it. I have to find something extra special. Seeing this yarn reminds me to cherish life and those who make it more beautiful.
