Shop Yarn

Ok I had to delete the previous post with my custom yarns in it because it seems that the logo was causing my bio, links etc to be way at the bottom of the page.

Pick Up Sticks Signature

Today I made a big decision about this shop - I am bringing in some brand new yarn from the UK. It's very, very new and it's CASHMERE!

This is one of the variegated - I chose 10 colors for the shop. It's 70% merino/30% cashmere. Just a bit of luxury!

This is 100% cashmere in solid lace weight. I chose 6 solids! Even more luxury! There are over 600 yards per skein!

Some worsted choices....

here's some more yarn...... more from a one woman operation - this time Canadian. It's worsted weight....just to wet your whistle!! Can you tell I love, love, love hand dyed yarn? Don't worry I am trying to balance with solids.
Company for dinner tonight - I have about 12 lbs of ribs cooking slowly in the oven. Then it's off to the coffee shop for our farewell with Anne.

Finished Sock

Here's the finished sock in the amazing yarn that will be in my shop - along with 32 other colors. One of the things I love most in a yarn shop is lots of choice of color. I'm trying to hard to have large selections of color. I will have between 7 and 9 manufacturers but will have almost all of the colors of the yarns I have chosen. This yarn was great to work with and the pattern really does the yarn justice. Now it's on to another project - I have another yarn from this same company and am going to get busy on a sample of that. Also, Miss Emma (my youngest) has decided she'd like a shawl too - no Koigu for her! But I do have some amazing Misti Alpaca Cotton that I picked up at Lettuce Knit.

We're practically famous....

Check this out! This is Sarah C, Emma J and me leaving Lettuce Knit last night. This picture was on the Knitty blog today. Yup that's bags of yarn in my hand - Sarah was equally loaded down but she's carrying it in her left hand so you can't see. Emma exercised extreme self control! The new shop is soooo cute and boy, was it jam packed with people and yarn!

I've been consumed the last few days ordering yarn, got my Visa/MC machine today - waiting for the web guy to show me the first pages of the website - waiting for the first pictures of my signature Pick Up Sticks sock yarn! So much to do, and it's all so much fun!

A Worthy Pattern.....

Sometimes it just takes a long time to find a pattern worthy of the yarn you are knitting with....after about 6 starts with this yarn......and more comments than I care to mention from those watching me knit................here's what I've chosen.

This yarn is a sample of the $4,000 purchase I made recently for Pick Up Sticks and the pattern is Crusoe from Knitty.com. It shows the colors beautifully and works up like a dream.....don't you just love it?

After lots of needle trials I've decided the following - I'm not crazy about my Addi DPNs - they are too long and too slippery. I am in love with my Pony Pearls and want to own all the sizes - I love the short length and how they have some slight give to them. I've also corrected my tension problem with my Charlotte's Web. It seems because the Addi Turbos are so slippery that they cause me to keep a death grip on the yarn. Here's the shawl on 6.5 mm bamboo circulars - much better, I think!
